Futures LabColumbia, Missouri

For a reporting class through the Missouri School of Journalism Futures Lab, I was assigned to report, shoot and edit a short video about love. I found Don Toebben, a woodworker who keeps his connection to his daughter through woodworking after her death in a car crash.

Working with two other reporters, I covered the Grain Belt Express, a proposed energy transmission line that would carry wind energy from Kansas to the East Coast. Missouri farmers blocked the proposal over property rights.

Reuters, Brussels, Belgium

As an intern at Reuters, I got to work with both the text and TV departments. My favorite assignments combined both. I was always able to write a better story or chose a better sound bite when I had been present for all stages of the reporting. My work with TV included conducting interviews, editing raw footage, selecting and transcribing soundbites, doorsteps, booming and generating story ideas.

Some multimedia stories I worked on include these below:

Belgium hopes UNESCO will say “cheers” to its beer culture — November 2016

A euronews story created using Reuters footage on the addition of Belgian beer to the list of intangible world heritage. I conducted interviews for the story, selected sound bites and wrote the corresponding text story.

EU celebrates 25 years of Maastricht Treaty — December 2016

A story from MSN made using Reuters footage on the 25th anniversary of the Maastricht Treaty. For this story, I interviewed EU experts, selected sound bites and wrote the script.
